I Don't Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist Review

There is a lot of information packed into this book. It covers scientific ideas, historical documents, logical ideas and more. The authors cover so many points. There is at least one rebuttal out there that raises some arguments with this book though. But for the most part, there's a lot that cannot be refuted. I loved it. I loaned it to a friend but plan on reading some parts of it again when I get it back.

I Don't Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist Overview

All worldviews, including atheism, require faith. I Don’t Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist argues that Christianity requires the least faith of all because it is the most reasonable. The authors lay out the evidence for truth, God, and the Bible in logical order and in a readable, non-technical, engaging style. A valuable aid to those interested in examining the reasonableness of the Christian faith, Geisler and Turek provide a firm challenge to the previous beliefs of doubters of all sorts.

This is one of the worst books I have ever read. The writer continuously sets up straw man arguments creating a disagreement where there isn't one or misrepresenting a half truth on one side of an arguments so that it appears that it is easy for him to knock down the arguments. The writer tries to lose you engaging in semantics to make it appear that he is a very sophisticated and intelligent writer. This may work for the biased or uneducated reader but all others are quickly disgusted with his weak attempt to make a point. For example the writer will give a common disagreement between science and the bible. The writer will present the scientific view in a misdirected half effort to make it appear as if the scientific claim is weak. The writer will then create supposed logic rules that no adult would buy into and then he'll explain that the scientific claim is too farfetched. I have seen good arguments for God and I have seen good arguments for science. This book is a cheap attempt to make a buck off of people who lack the clarity of mind to carry a thought throughout more tha a few pages of text. I wish I could give it less the one star.

Starts off with inaccurate information, goes downhill from there - Amy E. Carrier -
I was intrigued at first, but within a few pages the author gives a completely incorrect origin for the word "university". This would not be at all important if he did not immediately use his mistake (lie?) as a springboard for attacking higher education. Why does he attack higher education? Apparently because most universities are neutral on the subject of religion, when he would prefer them to all be actively Christian. (By the way, do you want to know the correct origin of the word "university"? It is not hard to find: Just look in any dictionary!)

I was lucky enough in highschool to take a civics class in which we were taught the techniques which propaganda uses to convince us of its lies. All of the techniques were given names, like "kernel of truth" and "dehumanize the enemy". Sadly, its been a long time since highschool, and I remember only a few of the names. However, I can still spot the techniques themselves, even if I can't remember what they're called, and they are all here in this book! After the introduction, the propaganda comes thick and fast.

I remember something else from that civics class. I remember the teacher saying "If someone is using propaganda to convince you of something, then what they are trying to convince you of is probably very bad for you." This book is undoubtedly very good for the author (he is making money from it), but it is probably very bad for you.

Avoid this book. Even without having ever met you, whoever you are, I'm pretty sure you have better things to do with your time and money.
