When Bad Things Happen to Good People Review

It is indeed a book "...for everyone who has been hurt by life-..." and "...a book that heals...". Born of a tragedy in his own life, Rabbi Kushner transcends a strong belief in Gods goodness and fairness, instead of blame for natural disasters, illness and accidents, or complacencent acceptance of all things as Gods will, judgment and punishment.
Kushner redefines miracles, by way of prayer for strength, courage and help, "...to bear the unbearable.". Although miraculous cures and escapes "...do happen sometimes...", overcoming, growing through the bad things are miracles in themselves. Kushner answers the question with RESPONSE. Belief and prayer changing and a comforting read.

When Bad Things Happen to Good People Specifications
Rarely does a book come along that tackles a perennially difficult human issue with such clarity and intelligence. Harold Kushner, a Jewish rabbi facing his own child's fatal illness, deftly guides us through the inadequacies of the traditional answers to the problem of evil, then provides a uniquely practical and compassionate answer that has appealed to millions of readers across all religious creeds. FALLS SHORT - o3man -
While I commend the rabbi for his attempt to help us understand one of the great questions of life, his effort falls short. Perhaps if the rabbi actually believed in the Bible he quotes, he would be able to regard God as more than just a kindly onlooker and supporter and he would have been able to hit closer to the mark. Thus, while he apparently believes the Bible's references to God's goodness, he totally discounts the manifold references to God's awesome power and might. For myself, I understand that an infinite God is too big for me to totally understand. As the prophet Isiah wrote, speaking of God: " For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts." (Is 55:9) It is enough to know that the omniscient, omnipotent, all-merciful creator that I know is in control and hears my prayers. No matter what happens, my comfort is in the fact that "all things work together for good to those who love God." (Rom 8:28)

He says God can't...but God can! - patti mcalpin -
This was a book I got my husband Tim after his son was killed. I just thought it would be a good book but it goes to show you that you "Can't Judge a Book by looking at the Cover." Tim opened the book and read the chapters, and one was called " God Can't do Everything." And another, "Sometimes there is no reason." This is about the worst selection you could ever get for someone who is greiving. Why? Because God can do everything and anything, and this Rabbi doesn't know that. What a shame. Retire rabbi and leave comforting hurting people to others who know the ropes. However, as a result of this book and lack of support for suffering people and because my husband could not find a good book to help him through his time of grieving, he has written his own book coming out in the fall of 2010. Look for Timothy McAlpin best seller soon!!! And you'll be able to give TIM'S book to people who are suffering and they will be glad you did. See [...]
